The WH-1000XM5 comes with the same headband and ear cups to the XM4 however it is lighter and more comfortable. They are comfortable to wear and can be worn for long periods. They're also great for long flights and commutes. They offer excellent noise cancellation performance that eliminates most background noise while maintaining clarity and detail. The Sony WH1000XM5 headphones feature an excellent amount of bass, particularly for closed-back models. They also have excellent soundstages and clear distinction between vocals and instruments.

They're not the best option for games that are competitive, however and are a good choice for people who will be using them for entertainment and to make calls that are hands-free.

Sony is dedicated to incorporating smart features into its products and the WH1000XM5 model is no different. The active noise cancellation is one of the best I've used and they have a whole range of intelligent features that can enhance your listening experience. They also have Sony's DSEE Extreme engine which upscales compressed music to near hi-res quality. They're also compatible with Sony's own LDAC technology, which streams audio with higher bitrates over Bluetooth (although not as high-quality as the headphone DAC that's dedicated).

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Bowers & Wilkins flagship headphones which is the PX7 S2, have consistently appeared on the top lists of wireless headsets since the launch of the first generation PX7, in 2015. This puts them in the same class as Sony WH1000XM5 or Bose QuietComfort. The newest model, called the PX7 S2, is an upgrade that takes the original headphones to a higher level, with improved ANC performance and a refreshed design.

In the earcups, 40mm bio cellulose drivers are designed to be angled so that they point straight towards your eardrums to deliver an audio experience that's more intimate than most closed-back headphones. The PX7 S2 is a perfect example of this bold claim. Vocals cut through clearly, and Wireless Headphones Uk bass is rich and rumbly when it needs to be.

The Bathys are stunning with their glossy finishes and swooping curvatures similar to Focal's closed-back Celestee and open-back Elear headphones. They also have premium materials such as aluminum and magnesium for an extremely sturdy build that is comfortable, solid, and worth the price.

In Bluetooth mode when Bluetooth is enabled, the Bathys provide a clear and lively sound signature that easily outperforms similarly priced consumer ANC alternatives like the Sony XM5/5 or Bose QC45. Direct DAC audio mode lets them be extended and makes them an excellent option for those who love hifi.

The Focal and Naim app allows users to alter the playback controls of the headphone and Bluetooth pairing preferences. The app lets users choose between quiet and soft intensities for ANC. Users can also alter the brightness of LEDs on the earcups of the headphones, and alter the EQ settings. The app isn't complete, but it offers enough features to warrant the download.

The only significant flaw is that the active noise cancellation does not perform as well as the competition. The headphone doesn't block out all ambient noise like the top-rated XM5 or AirPods Max, and its Treble accuracy is subpar with a muddy mid - to high-end that can be distracting from the sound of instruments and vocals.

The Focal Bathys aren't the most portable headphones. Their ear cups don't fold down and weigh slightly more than the competition, meaning they're not the best choice for traveling. They're best suited to an environment at home where they can be used for long listening sessions or as an audio reference headphone for engineering purposes. Despite their size and weight, the Bathys are actually comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

4. Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WH-CH720N headphones are a good pair of wireless headphones that are worth the price. The noise-cancelling technology is excellent and helps to cut down the background noise. They are ideal for commuters or travellers. They also offer an attractive high-end look with their durable construction and attractive matte finish.

They follow a similar design to Sony's more recent 1000X and XB910N headphones. They sport a slim headband, with the usual ear cup hinges and a sturdy plastic build. They're light and comfortable to wear, although they feel a bit too compressed for my taste. They come with a USB-C charge port, 3.5mm jack and a decent-length cable inside the box. They are compatible with multipoint Bluetooth pairing, which means that you can connect them to two devices at once If you want to.

In my tests, the CH720N's hybrid technology for noise cancellation did a fantastic job at reducing ambient noise. There were only a few glitches while walking around Waterloo Station and London Victoria. They weren't sound-silencers that zapped every single nearby sound, however, they struggled with low-frequency sounds like the rumbling engine sounds of buses and trains.

The streaming of music via the CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth and showed a low amount of harmonic distortion. I tried a variety of genres and discovered that they could handle the intricate interplay between instruments very well. It did a great job of taming bass in rock tracks and keeping the mix focused.

I love the fact that you can adjust the Sony Headphones Connect app to customize the CH720N's ANC and multipoint connectivity settings to your preference, as well as include a variety of audio presets.
