How to Replace window Pane Window Panes

Once the putty is dry clean the oily film off the glass and let it dry completely before painting. If you paint before the putty is fully dry, it won't create an effective seal and could be leaking or discoloring in time.

Paint

You may be concerned about replacing a damaged piece of glass. It's true that replacing a single pane of glass doesn't need to be costly when you do it on your own. In fact windows with double panes can be replaced at a fraction of the cost of an expert.

First, if you are working on a large window, make sure it is securely fastened to the frame. This job can be done relatively easy and fast using the right tools and techniques.

When you are ready to begin taking down the old window pane. Take out the metal glazing points that are attached to it. These are basically small metal triangles that function as "nails" that keep the window in in the wood frame.
