How to Replace a Saab 93 Key Fob

Every car must have a key fob that has a remote or transmitter that can lock and unlock your vehicle. The batteries that are used in these devices may be damaged.

If you are thinking of buying a Saab 93 and don't have two keys, you can purchase one for about $400. This is done by purchasing a new TWICE module from a dealer and putting it in place using an exclusive hand-held computer known as Tech2. Tech2.

Keys Replacement

Many used Saabs come with one key. It's a good idea to get a spare key as soon as you can because it's cheaper to do this than replacing the entire car in case you lose your only key. It is important to rotate the keys in order to avoid wear and cheap tear.

If you lose your sole key, you'll need replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) module together with a new key and a special program to convince the car you're not trying to steal it. The replacement of these modules can cost upwards of $400, and the components are ordered via mail which means it's not a one-time job for the majority of locksmiths, or even dealers.

The good news is that a majority of modern Saab cars can have an additional key that can be added to the system, without replacing the computer that was originally installed in the vehicle. The dealer will have to use a specific handheld computer known as Tech-2 Tech-2 to insert the second key and then program it into the vehicle. Some garages that are independent can do this as well but the process is more complicated. They will have to reprogram your existing car computer's EEPROM so it will accept the new key.

Key Fobs Replacement

Saab owners who lost their last key or had it stolen must get an immediate replacement as soon as possible. The steps to get a working 9-3 Saab key fob will require the dealer's service department. This can cost hundreds of dollars, which includes the cost of a replacement key, a new TWICE module (theft warning integrated central electronics) and reprogramming to convince the vehicle that the new key is not a stolen one.

The process is less expensive in the event that you have an extra. The new key must be identical to the original Module. A second-hand one is not compatible. However a genuine OEM replacement can be purchased from the dealer for less than what it costs.

It is easy to remove the case from a new SAAB Key Fob. You can use a flathead screwdriver break open the case, however, be cautious not to damage the electronic components within. After you have removed the battery and electronics and battery, you can put a new case in the shell of the old fob. Set the two pieces in alignment and gently press them in to allow them to click into the right place. After everything is in place and synchronized, you can use the new fob. It is important to note that adding the new key is more complicated than simply replacing the emergency key and will require the dealer's assistance using a specific tool called the Tech-2.

If your car's key won't start or turn on when you turn the ignition on, or doesn't begin when you press the starter button, first check that the transmission is in Park. This will prevent your car from rolling away when the lock for the transmission fails or the manual transmission is pulled out of gear.

Most of the time the issue lies in the electronic components inside the key fob that control how the car will recognize the key once it's in the ignition cylinder. The key's metal material is fairly easy to duplicate, but the electronic part of the key fob is what will allow the car to recognize the key.

This is not something that a locksmith can do. It has to be handled by a dealer or a special handheld computer called Tech2. This is not something that a locksmith is able to do, it needs to be done through a dealer or a handheld computer that is called a Tech2.

If you already have a functioning key fob, then adding another will not cost more than $200. The other cost is the actual production of the metal key, [Redirect-302] in the event that you require it. Most dealers can do this, but it could take a few weeks to get the part and the car programmed.

Replacement Remotes
