Compact Pushchair Reviews

If you're using public transport or often traveling by car, a lightweight compact stroller pushchairs is an excellent choice. They are easy to fold and store, and less likely to be damaged by baggage handlers.

If you're looking for a lightweight pushchair, our favourite is the Silver Cross Dune. The Silver Cross Dune is a compact pushchair that offers all the features and thoughtful design you'd expect from a brand with a long history. It also has a very easy to fold, and, similar to the Contours Itsy, it comes in the box fully assembled. It's a great option for parents who intend to do lots of travelling with their baby and can fit into the majority of car boot spaces and trunk spaces.

Another good alternative is the Cybex Mios, which straddles both categories of pushchair as a fully-functioning travel system with mobility and a small fold. It can be used in a parent-facing mode right from birth and changed to world-facing as your child gets older. It also comes with an excellent recline feature that's nap-friendly. It isn't quite as compact as the Libelle, but it does come in smaller size and is more comfortable to use on flat surfaces. It's not suitable for rough terrain. The price is very affordable and the durability tests are excellent.

Easy to store

The Joie Pact Pro makes the perfect travel buggy. It folds so small it can fit into an overhead compartment for luggage and weighs so little that you'll barely feel it in your car. It's also a great stroller to use for everyday use. Our test-driver Hollie discovered that it was easy to steer, even when carrying a baby of just one year old. She was impressed by the adjustable handle, lockable wheels and the reclining seat. However, she said that it was not particularly comfortable. But she also appreciates the fact that you can add additional features, such as an reversible, washable seat liner, rain cover and the foot muff.

The Babyzen YOYO is another impressively compact fold pushchair. It's not as streamlined as the Cybex Libelle but it's still an attractive package that can be easily slid into car boot and trunks. It also offers more options for newborns than other buggies, including the option of adding a bassinet or newborn cot, plus a bespoke ride-on board for older children and a tandem double-seat adapter.

The YOYO isn't the most compact pushchair for driving on rough or uneven terrain. Its small wheels also don't perform well compared to other models that we have evaluated. But, it's a very manoeuvrable pushchair and the YOYO does an excellent job of navigating narrow shopping aisles and muddy pathways. It's a great choice for a vacation or city break.

The Cosatto Bee6 offers a remarkably streamlined list of features for its affordable price. It folds down to the size of a backpack and weighs only 6kg, so it's an ideal travel buggy to cart on trains and planes. It's also a breeze to operate and our MFM reviewer Matt was a joy to steer even with a large toddler in the. He also appreciated the hood, which is low enough to shield from sun and showers and facilitate napping. Its only drawback is that there's no under-seat storage and you'll have to carry or carefully drape your bag on the handlebars (against expert advice!). You can also purchase an additional changing bag holder, making this an ideal holiday buggy.

Easy to Manoeuvre

Most compact pushchairs are designed for older babies and toddlers however, an increasing number offer a lie-flat seating or the option to add an extra carrycot (or baby car seat) to allow them to be used from the time of birth. These concertina or Z fold buggies are typically light with a weight of 6-8kg. They are also approved for cabin use by a number of airlines. If you're in search of a truly small fold, the YOYO is the pinnacle of the compact category and was the first buggy models of this kind. It's still a popular choice among parents who prefer it over its rivals due to its clever details and superior functionality. It's a great option for frequent travelers, especially those who want to avoid the hassle of waiting in line at baggage collection by taking their stroller with them.
